Research lanes & cost
Instant vs. free overnight — when to use which.
Every research task in Diurno HQ — company workups, enrichment answers, outreach drafts, people checks — runs on one of two lanes. Same evidence rules; different speed and cost.

On the Free plan
There's only the overnight lane, so the lane pickers below are replaced by a note saying so, and ▶ Run now isn't offered. Each item counts toward the month's research runs, and Free jobs wait in the same overnight queue as everyone else's (the agent takes turns between organizations and serves Free after paid within each turn, with no guaranteed turnaround).
Where you pick the lane
- CSV import — when research is enabled.
- Enrichment Grid — every column-run menu.
- Batch outreach — in the dialog.
- Verify people — on the button's menu.
- Everywhere else — the Research screen's form, Research now on an account, and Find companies — there's no picker: the instant lane is used while your allowance lasts, then the free overnight lane takes over automatically.
Managing the free lane
- Waiting jobs show as Waiting · overnight (free) on the Research screen (and Waiting · free lane in Enrichment Grid cells, or Queued · overnight where there is no instant lane); if nothing has drained the lane for 36+ hours, a banner there says so.
- Changed your mind? Where an instant lane exists, press ▶ on a held job to promote it now; press 🗑 to remove it (it asks first, and on the Free plan the run comes back).
- The overnight agent works through the queue in batches and takes turns between organizations; results and alerts appear as each batch finishes.
When instant research is turned off
Instant research needs a research provider connected to your Diurno HQ deployment. When the Research screen says Instant research is turned off on this deployment, only the overnight lane runs jobs: every request is queued for an overnight batch instead of failing, and the instant choices (and ▶) disappear. Anything that needs an answer on the spot can't run meanwhile: Set it all up for me, Suggest filters and Generate with AI are switched off or report that the model is unavailable. Retrying a failed job (↻) is still there; it puts the job back in the overnight queue, and on the Free plan it counts as a run.
A sane default
Top-20 accounts and pre-call refreshes on instant; everything at volume on free overnight. Every paid plan includes a monthly instant allowance (see Plans & pricing; the Free plan has none), and anything past it simply drops to the free overnight lane — so most teams never think about it.
