Core concepts

Intent score, priority bands, signals, sources, and research lanes — plainly.

Five ideas explain the whole product. Two minutes here saves an hour everywhere else.

1 · Signals

A signal is one piece of public evidence that a company may be getting ready to buy: a job posting, a new executive, a funding round, a tech choice, an expansion announcement. Every signal stores a link to where it was found. Signals are the raw material for everything else.

2 · Two scores: Fit × Event

Every account carries two numbers that answer two different questions. Fit says whether; Event says when.

  • ICP Fit (0–100)is this company the kind of customer you sell to? Research judges it against your qualification criteria (with the reasons one click away on the account page); until then a transparent heuristic fills in. Fit is mostly static — it doesn't decay. A dash means not assessed yet.
  • Buying-Event score (0–100)is something happening right now? Computed from sourced signals using your workspace's scoring rules — for example “hiring application-security engineers = 25 points.” Each rule counts its strongest sourced signal; extra confirming sources raise confidence, and old news fades the score down automatically. Click any score to see exactly which evidence produced it, point by point.

Fit 95 / Event 20 → a great prospect with nothing happening: watch, don't call. Fit 90 / Event 92 → contact now. The Today list ranks by Event × Fit for exactly this reason. Full detail: How scoring works.

3 · Priority bands

BandMeaning
Immediate OutreachStrong, fresh, multi-source evidence. Contact now.
Target AccountReal intent, worth working this week.
Monitor / ResearchEarly signs. Watch, enrich, wait for more.
Low PriorityNo meaningful public evidence right now.

Bands are cut from the Buying-Event score; the thresholds that define them are yours to tune in SettingsScoring.

4 · Sources — the honesty rule

Nothing becomes a fact in Diurno HQ without a public URL behind it. When research can't verify something, the field says Needs Verification or No Public Evidence Found — on purpose. A short truthful profile beats a rich invented one, because you're going to say these things to a real buyer. More: Why some fields say “Needs verification”.

5 · Research lanes

Whenever Diurno HQ does research for you, you choose how it runs:

  • Instant lane — runs in about a minute using the metered research API (costs cents per item).
  • Free overnight lane — queued for the subscription research agent, which works through it at no per-item cost, typically overnight.

Rule of thumb: need it for a call today → instant. Everything else → free overnight. Details: Research lanes & cost.
